When are sessions held?
Our club sessions take place Sundays from 6 to 8 pm at Cathays Community Centre in Cardiff.
Please contact us before attending to avoid disappointment. We might not be able to let you take part without pre-booking with us.
Who can join sessions?
Anyone 18 and older, interested in Historical European Martial Arts or sword fighting in general is welcome to join our sessions.
Currently we do not hold the provisions required for under 18s.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience is needed; we welcome beginners and provide guidance based on Joachim Meyer's 1570 German longsword techniques. We also host beginner sabre classes. Both our beginners courses specifically designed to accommodate complete beginners and all fitness levels.
How is HEMA different from Fencing?
Fencing has developed over time to the sport we see today. The martial elements reduced, and the equipment made lighter. The traditional elements that remain are the target areas.
HEMA goes back to historical weight and balance with it's training tools to recreate the forgotten martial arts of Europe. It's an older form of fencing from where it was practiced for defence.
What should I bring?
Bring comfortable clothing, trainers and any protective gear if you have it; we provide training swords and equipment.
